The Bainbridge Island City Council at its Jan. 25 meeting voted to move forward in soliciting bids for a new police department and court facility.
The council voted to pursue a new facility on city property located at 8804 Madison Ave — the former home of the Harrison Medical Center — although leading up to the vote, the council had a long and at times heated exchange about whether a racial equity lens should be used to evaluate the project. Ultimately, the council voted to include a racial equity lens assessment as part of the motion to solicit bids for the project.
